AS PROMISED AT THE 2010 AUTO EXPO, Royal Enfield has finally ditched the rudimentary cast-iron 350CC engine to meet emission norms. The company has launched its Electra on the same UCE (unit construc¬tion engine) platform as theThunderbird Twinspark. Bookings are open for the Electra 5S UCE, which should offer better fuel efficiency and reliability, apart from meeting the new emission norms coming into force from April 2010. The engine is identical to the one on the Thunderbird Bullet Classic and produces an identical 20PS of power and 28Nm of torque. The bike has been priced at Rs 93,846 ex-showroom Chennai, with electric start and disc brake.
