Design Engineer - Chassis

Overview

  • As a​ Design Engineer​ for Royal Enfield you will be part of the Global Technical Organisation.
  • You will work within the Chassis design team and with the wider cross functional team, to deliver new models on time, on budget and to meet performance requirements. You will be responsible for the specification, design, development of components, assemblies and systems that contribute to class leading motorcycles.
  • Collaborating with both in-house manufacturing teams and external suppliers you will own the design process, working flexibly with Industrial Design, Product Strategy and Sourcing teams, whilst ensuring conformity to regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Your key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Design systems and components for new and updated chassis projects, considering function, cost, manufacturing, assembly and quality with the support of senior team members.
  • Produce 3D CAD models using Creo to the required standard.
  • Produce 2D engineering drawings to the required standard.
  • Follow design, operational and quality procedures.
  • Produce supporting documentation for designs, as required.
  • Design components and systems to comply with regulatory requirements and Royal Enfields internal test procedures.
  • Liaise with internal functional stakeholders to ensure alignment of expectations and needs.
  • Liaise with external suppliers to ensure design for manufacture feedback is incorporated.
  • Manage time and workload effectively.
  • Create and manage timing plans for own areas of responsibility.
  • Work with CAD Designers allocated to help with creating CAD models.
  • Support testing department with the testing of components and motorcycles.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline. Minimum 2:1 degree required.
  • Experience:
  • Experience in Engineering design would be advantageous.
  • Some basic experience of 3D CAD preferred but not essential. Full training on CAD will be provided as part of the development plan for the role.
  • Awareness of component manufacturing processes and standards.
  • Understanding of the design requirements for vehicle mass production preferred.
  • Basic understanding of motorcycle layout and construction is advantageous.
  • Practical experience of vehicle maintenance and preparation an advantage.

  • Good communicator, clear and concise.
  • Flexible, ability to travel to other work locations including India as and when required.

Success metrics of the role

  • As a Design Engineer, you will be measured on objectives set and agreed to deliver goals and performance indicators, which may include :
  • CAD models, design reviews and drawings presented and released in line with project plans.
  • Quality of CAD modelling, drawings and application of CAE tools.
  • Quality and robustness of design solution proposals and supporting work.
  • Quality of collaboration and communications with internal departments and external suppliers

Scope and Impact

  • You will have a contributory role in the specification, design and development of a new motorcycle product. You will have personal responsibility for components, assemblies and systems.

Network and stakeholders

  • You will work within the Chassis Design Team
  • You will report to the Team Manager, Lead Engineer or Project Engineer within the team
  • You will work with teams across the organisation
