Overview

  • We are looking for talented Engineers to join our Chassis team based in our state of the art Technology Centre at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground. As a Project Engineer you will be a key part of the Chassis team, taking the lead on specific projects and components, helping to shape the future of the Royal Enfield product portfolio.
  • You will work the chassis and wider cross functional teams, to deliver new models on time, on budget and to meet performance requirements. You will be responsible for the specification, design, development of components, assemblies and systems that contribute to class leading motorcycles.
  • Collaborating with both in-house manufacturing teams and external suppliers you will own the design process, working flexibly with Industrial Design, Product Strategy and Sourcing teams, whilst ensuring conformity to regulatory requirements.
  • The candidates should be able to apply and propagate design and development experience throughout the projects and manage the workload and technical development of a small group of engineers, assisting the Team Leader in effectively managing the team.

Key responsibilities

  • Engineer systems and components for new and updated chassis projects, considering function, cost, manufacturing, assembly and quality, Including the management and development of key areas of the motorcycle.
  • Produce 3D CAD models to a high standard.
  • Produce 2D engineering drawings to a high standard.
  • Produce supporting documentation, calculations, tol stacks ect as required.
  • Plan and oversee the delivery of many major chassis subassemblies or systems within the requirements of the company’s New Product Introduction (NPI) system.
  • Follow and maintain design, operational and quality procedures and provide input where required.
  • Assist in drafting & updating RE Chassi design and development procedures.
  • Design components and systems to comply with regulatory requirements and Royal Enfields internal test procedures.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the application of regulatory requirements for motorcycle or automotive industries.
  • Liaise with internal functional stakeholders to ensure alignment of expectations and needs.
  • Liaise with external suppliers to ensure design for manufacture feedback is incorporated.
  • Manage time and workload effectively including that of any engineers reporting to you.
  • Create and manage timing plans for your own and team’s areas of responsibility.
  • Work with CAD Designers allocated to help with creating CAD models.
  • Support testing department with the testing of components and motorcycles.
  • Provide engineering guidance to other team members.
  • Represent the design team in interdepartmental meetings in the absence of the manager or Team manager.
  • May assist in the management and the delivery of a motorcycle project.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational Qualifications
  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline. Minimum of 2:1 required.
  • Experience Level:
  • A demonstrable track record in engineering design of components and subassemblies.
  • Several years experiences directly managing a small (1-3) team of engineers.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD, preferably Creo.
  • Proficient in creating and releasing 2D technical drawings.
  • Good understanding of geometric tolerances on 2D drawings.
  • Experienced in designing to a multitude of manufacturing process constraints
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes.
  • Thorough understanding of motorcycle chassis layout and construction.
  • Practical experience of vehicle maintenance and preparation is advantageous.
  • Some experience in designing to Regulatory requirements as applied to motorcycles.
  • Some experience in virtual methods including analysis and optimisation of components and subassemblies is prefered.

Success metrics or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • You will be measured on OTIF delivery on various goals and performance indicators. These will depend on the focus area for the year. Overall success of your role will depend on the following measures but not limited to:
  • CAD models, design reviews and drawings presented and released in line with project plans.
  • Quality of CAD modelling, drawings and application of CAE tools.
  • Quality and robustness of design solution proposals and supporting work.
  • Quality of collaboration and communications with internal departments and external suppliers
  • Management of key project areas or junior members of staff.

  • You will have a contributing role in the specification, design and development of a new motorcycle product. You will have personal responsibility for components, assemblies and systems. Including managing, supporting and mentoring a small team of Engineers
