Role context and purpose
- As a Development Engineer for Royal Enfield Genuine Motorcycle Accessories (GMA) your role will involve working with cross-functional teams in Product Development. At the outset you will be exposed to the development of retail customer facing products at various points in their product life cycle.
Key responsibilities
- Develop new and existing products in accordance with both International and company internal quality and certification standards in line with NPD objectives
- Ensure the design of appropriate test programs that can accurately measure product endurance and compliance against the above standards
- Design, develop and specify development rig requirements for both component and system level development
- Fully utilise analytical skills to understand, advise and act upon results gained during the development process
- Manage both in-house and off-site development activities in a controlled manner ensuring all H&S requirements have been completed with a view to safeguarding both Test Engineers and Workshop Technicians
- Create detailed and accurate development reports and deliver in an appropriate format, either through presentation or report to all key stakeholders
- Build effective relationships throughout the global business in order to further develop knowledge, understanding and delivery to project deadlines
- Ensure relevant departments and the supply base adhere to and are aware of the engineering development sign off requirements' when sourcing and appointing potential suppliers
- Clearly communicate the product development requirements to the Workshop Team Leader/Test Engineers
- Manage their own time and workload effectively, while also collaborating with other parties to ensure project deadlines are achieved
- Create and manage timing plans for their areas of responsibility
- Provide development engineering guidance to other team members
- Represent the design team in interdepartmental meetings in the absence of the team leader
Success metrics of the role
- As a Development Engineer you will be measured on OTIF delivery on various goals and performance indicators. Overall success of your role will depend on the following measures but not limited to:
- Mutually agreed project timing plan deadlines
- Successful development programme completion
Scope and Impact
- The GMA team is a dedicated one with 35 people split between the UK & India and it sits within the GCO (Global Commercial Organisation) but also links into the GTO (Global Technical Organisation) in terms of procedures and operating systems. The Development Engineer is a key role for the business which ultimately allows the enablement of delivery of new products to market. The GMA Product catalog will consist of 200+ ‘live’ products in 2019-20 and will expand further beyond that in 2020-21.

What are we looking for?
- Proven experience working within a product development discipline
- Experience creating and running product development activities
- Excellent working knowledge of product qualification and product compliance for automotive systems
- Proficient in Creo to enable development rig design
- Experience of motorcycle products is highly desirable
- Team player who is an excellent verbal and written communicator
- Excellent report writing skills
- Should be able to demonstrate good time management and excellent knowledge of engineering fundamentals
- Ability to travel to development activities at various global locations
- Educational qualifications
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline. Minimum of 2:1 required.
- Experience
- Past experience in engineering development of components and subassemblies
- Good knowledge of development processes
- Good understanding of motorcycle chassis layout and construction
- Practical experience of vehicle maintenance and preparation is advantageous
- Some experience in developing to Regulatory requirements as applied to motorcycles
