Wobbly front end

Hi guys,

I own a '88 bullet and I was really happy with its performance except for the last 6 months. The front end shudders a lot during riding at speeds above 30kmph and it's a real scary ride.

Several remedial measures were attempted but they were of no use.

1) Had the wheel bearings checked, had a new set of spokes installed (the rim was balanced properly).

2) New tyres/tubes were used at the front end.

3) Had the wheel alignment checked.

4) The front fork assembly was completely overhauled, the tubes were checked for damage. Had new springs, oil seals installed + new O rings at the top.

5) Fork oil of the correct viscosity was used (SAE 10W30). All the work was carried out at an authorised RE service centre. The funny thing was, my motorcycle handled like a dream for the first 50 kms, but the wobble has started all over again.

6) Took it to a local mechanic for a change. When he unscrewed the plugs at the top, air escaped from the left tube with a loud hiss. No such noise from the right tube. It seems, there's a leak in the left assembly but the oil seals seem to be fine. The wobble seems to be caused by the unbalanced damping rates of the two
tubes. The mechanic had an assistant hold down the front end for a while as he tightened the plugs on top and asked me to do a test run. Again, the bike handled like new for a couple of km but things are back to square one once again.

Would really appreciate if you could suggest a remedy.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the only solution would be to try changing the front suspension. But, i know its prohibitively expensive, and you should try everything else first.

Sorry i wasn't of more help.

Regards,

Satya

Thanks for your suggestion friend !

I shall be trying out cheaper alternatives first, spring studs, valve ports etc....
