Launching Spring 2021

Royal Enfield Debuts on the 2021 Flat Track Racing Circuit
in Partnership with reigning European Hooligan Flat Track champion,
Gary Birtwistle

Royal Enfield has debuted on the European racing circuit with the announcement of an exciting sponsorship and collaboration with Gary Birtwistle for the 2021 DTRA Flat Track racing season. Gary will campaign Royal Enfield’s purpose-built flat track racing motorcycles, the  Twins FT,  in all races in the 2021 DTRA calendar.

The DTRA series is the most prestigious flat track series outside of the USA and Royal Enfield is excited to partner with Gary,  the reigning 2019 European and British Hooligan flat track champion, as well as Pro Class European number 3, as part of its development program for the Twins FT.

Originating from the US, flat track racing is one of the most accessible and fastest growing motorsports in the market.  The sport’s grassroots origins are still very evident, with a relaxed and open atmosphere characterising both rider and audience participation.  Flat Track racing involves riders sliding motorcycles around an oval track under race conditions while displaying a technique that is less about straight-line speed and more about control, skill and timing.

To complement the racing sponsorship, Royal Enfield has also developed a partnership with Gary to launch a UK activation of its Slide Schools flat track learning experience - under the banner of “Dirt Craft”.  Dirt Craft will be the driving force behind a host of grassroot activations and numerous Slide School events at select tracks around the UK through Autumn 2021. Attendees, of all experience and skill levels, will be able to book their place via the Dirt Craft website.

The training school will offer motorcycle enthusiasts the opportunity to try out flat tracking for the first time or to further sharpen and refine their riding skills. Royal Enfield has customised their hugely popular and versatile Himalayan to create the FT411 model – specially for use in the Flat Track environment. The specially modified motorcycles  have been developed by pro racers in the USA and Europe with great success.  The Himalayan is light, durable and easy to handle, making it the perfect base for learning to slide with confidence.  The FT411 will be used exclusively in Royal Enfield’s Slide Schools.

Says Adrian Sellers, head of Royal Enfield’s Custom Program; “We’re very excited to be teaming up with Gary for this project and marks yet another major brand milestone in the EU region. Dirt Craft has been designed to be fun and accessible, perfectly aligning with Royal Enfield’s own mantra of enjoyment and inclusivity, and supporting our mission to get as many people riding as possible. We believe the partnership encapsulates everything that we value as a brand. The combination of Slide School and the purpose built FT411 motorcycles is the ideal platform from which any enthusiastic rider can launch into flat track racing, or simply hone their handling skills or become a better all round rider.”

The Dirt Craft Slide School is the newest experience partner to be added to Royal Enfield’s programme of partners complementing the already successful schools in the USA and India.

Says Gary, “"It's a great pleasure to be partnering with Royal Enfield for 2021 and beyond. I'm really excited to be a part of the 650 racing programme, working with Royal Enfield and Harris to help try and get the most out of the package is really motivating. I'm just eager to start putting the laps in before the season starts; I think we could have a good chance at the British Championship this year.  Slide school is such a great initiative, it's helping to grow the sport of Flat Track in an honest, fun way that everyone can enjoy. As a lover of the sport I'm personally really excited to be helping introduce Flat Tack to more people around the country. The first events are only around the corner and I'm really looking forward to welcoming our first riders to Slide School."
